The first ever Masters Indigenous Games 2018 Embody The Spirit Pow Wow will be the official event for Medal and Closing Ceremonies. The Pow Wow will have Grand Entry at Noon, followed by the intertribal dance at 1:00 pm. During the Pow Wow we’ll have traditional sports demonstrations such as lacrosse, and tug of war. The Medal Ceremony is scheduled to begin at 4:00 pm followed by the Smoke Dance competition then the Official Closing Ceremonies at 5:00 pm. All registered dancers will receive a day honourarium for being a part of the first-ever Masters Indigenous Games Embody the Spirit Pow Wow and everyone is invited to the traditional feast that will take place after the pow wow.

Drum Groups

Drum groups for the Embody the Spirit Pow Wow include:

  • Smoke Trail, a collective that provides educational experiences in the form of presentation(s) and/or performance(s) of Aboriginal Music and Dance in a contemporary style enhanced with historical perspectives.
  • Little Creek a drum group formed in the summer of 2012 and is intended for the sharing of knowledge of Pow Wow songs and protocol. For this group, this is an opportunity to pass beautiful Pow Wow culture on to younger generations.
  • Mixed Tribe from Mississuaga of New Credit First Nation
  • Youth Drum Group – M’shkaaziwin. A young group devoted to the continuation of the history, teachings, and the ways of old. The group is just over a year old with members who are all centrally located in the Curve Lake area comprised of members of different nations and communities.
  • Smoke Dance Singers – Old Mush Singers. A Singing Society with rules, traditions, leadership, and responsibilities. 

                                                    

MC’s

  • Host MC – Bob Goulais. Bob is a second-degree member of the Three Fires Midewiwin Lodge, a traditional society of the Anishinabe (Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatami) people. He is a warrior and a strong advocate for the retention and proliferation of the Anishinabek language and culture. 
  • Co-Host – Mista Wasis. A dynamic professional artistic and cultural Northern Plains Cree originating from Treaty 6 Territory in Saskatchewan.

  • ONLY registered dancers may receive day honourarium or Smoke Dance competition prizes.
  • Registrations will be limited and payments will be awarded on the day of the event.
  • Identification will be required.
  • All decisions are final.
  • NO late entries.
  • We respectfully request that all dancers are drug/ alcohol-free.
